Natural Resources Extraction

In the Andean-Piedmont Lanscape, hunting, fishing and illegal logging are current threats to the Cofán territory in Putumayo. Settlers have been using inappropriate methods such as dinamite for fishing, and practice illegal and unsustainable extraction of forest resources. We are currently working with the integrated management of indigenous territories approach to deal with illegal and unsustainable natural resource extraction. Our results in communitary mapping and capacity building in GIS technologies with local indigenous organizations have shown that titled indigenous territories (resguardos) have the best protected natural covers in the zone.
