Pacarana (Dinomys branickii)

The Pacarana (Dinomys branickii) is a rare and habitat specialist rodent which occurs throughout most of the Andean region and some localities in the Amazonia. Is considered a Vulnerable species due to habitat loss and hunting. We are currently evaluating habitat use, distribution and developing surveillance strategies with local communities and environmental authorities (CARs) in order to reduce their threats. We just finished the Conservation Management plan for the SIRAP-EC and we are promoting its soon implementation.
