Planting day to contribute to the recovery the Brown Spider monkey’s habitat

Species like the ‘Caracolí’, the ‘guamo’ and the ‘dilodendron’, were included in this planting, whose area covered approximately three hectares.

Residents of the community Bocas del Carare, representatives of the municipality of Puerto Parra (Santander) and members of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Colombia), participated enthusiastically in the activity .

Recall that habitat loss is one of the main causes that have led the Brown Spider monkey (also known as the Magdalena Marimonda) to become one of the world's 25 most endangered monkeys.

These plantings have the strategic aim to generate greater connectivity between forest patches that are home to the mammal.

The Fundación Proyecto Primates, a nongovernmental organization that is part of PVS, and that conducts conservation projects for the Brown Spider monkey, was responsible for coordinating and leading this initiative.
