The National Parks of Colombia authorities led the process of drafting the proposal for the declaration of a new national protected area, in this case in the Serrania de San Lucas, at a recent meeting where different organizations took part, among which institutions, foundations and partners working on this important idea.
At the meeting, held in Bogotá, each organization presented its own initiative. In addition, there was room for dialogue and exchange of experiences for the formation of agreements and planning of an integrated management of the territory.
It was also possible to demonstrate the work of the different actors which have different relations with the land area, for both the Bolívar and Antioquia departments. This meant listening to the priorities and expectations of local communities regarding the possible declaration of a protected area.
Meanwhile, the National Parks of Colombia authorities presented the progress of the declaration process of "Serrania de San Lucas" and the various social organizations attending shared information about the different conservation projects being carried out.
Representatives of various state institutions such as the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Health, the National Mine Agency, the National Planning Department (DNP), the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History (ICANH), IDEAM and INCODER, also attended the meeting.
Local organizations that attended were: Association Campesina del Valle del río Cimitarra (ACVC), Funcopromas, Community Zenú del Valle del Sol, Communications Collective of Bagre and the Dialogue Commission of southern Bolívar, center and south of Cesar.
The following organizations were also attending: Project Primates, WCS Colombia, Panthera and Foundation Alma, a list to which regional initiatives such as the Alliance for Forests and Agenda San Lucas were added.
