When visiting properties in this area, large plots of land (over 200 hectares) were identified. The highest number of bear attacks on cattle (more than 20 individuals attacked and/or scavenged) was recorded in these areas.

Based on this information, conservation and productive improvement actions were focused on the adaptation of livestock management pens and housing.

To date, work has been carried out on five properties covering 2,422 hectares. Five conservation agreements have been signed. The improved areas total 485 hectares, and the conservation areas amount to 1,936 hectares.

Work was also done to divide pastures for livestock production with electric fences, implement eco-efficient kitchens in the main houses of the properties, and install artificial water troughs for the cattle.

These actions resulted in a 100 percent reduction in interactions with the Andean bear. On the other hand, isolating forested areas with high conservation values, using traditional fences, was prioritized to prevent domestic animals from increasing the likelihood of interactions with wildlife, particularly carnivores such as the Andean bear and puma.
