¿QUÉ COME LA RANITA VENENOSA DEL VALLE DEL CAUCA?
Un reciente artículo científico publicado en la revista Herpetology Notes por parte de investigadores de WCS Colombiadescribe la dieta de Andinobates bombetes (Myers y Daly, 1980), comúnmente conocida como la ranita venenosa del Valle del Cauca o Rana Rubí.

El estudio analizó el contenido estomacal de sesenta y nueve ranitas de tres bosques de los Andes noroccidentales de Colombia.

1471 presas individuales de 16 grupos taxonómicos, fueron encontrados en el contenido estomacal.

NEEDEL AND THREAD FOR TWO ENDANGERED SPECIES

Spider monkeys and curassows brought together the people from the Magdalena Medio

One of the main objectives associated with this activity was to establish how the community living in this region recognize these species and consider them part of their environment.

In addition, the meeting also served as an exchange of knowledge between those who did the embroidery and the scientific team working with both species.

A MEETING ABOUT SAN LUCAS

The National Parks of Colombia authorities led the process of drafting the proposal for the declaration of a new national protected area, in this case in the Serrania de San Lucas, at a recent meeting where different organizations took part, among which institutions, foundations and partners working on this important idea.

At the meeting, held in Bogotá, each organization presented its own initiative. In addition, there was room for dialogue and exchange of experiences for the formation of agreements and planning of an integrated management of the territory.

PLANTING OF TREES ON  THE BANKS OF THE SAN JUAN RIVER BENEFITS THE BROWN SPIDER MONKEY

Planting day to contribute to the recovery the Brown Spider monkey’s habitat. 

Species like the ‘Caracolí’, the ‘guamo’ and the ‘dilodendron’, were included in this planting, whose area covered approximately three hectares.

Residents of the community Bocas del Carare, representatives of the municipality of Puerto Parra (Santander) and members of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Colombia), participated enthusiastically in the activity.

WILDLIFE PROJECT / PROYECTO VIDA SILVESTRE PROVIDES 200 MORICHE PALMS TO THE BITA RIVER BASIN (VICHADA)

 

NGO Yoluka, one of the ten organizations, led the planting of 200 Moriche palms. This happened in the Natural Reserve La Pedregoza and the estate named “El Bolsillo”.

 

Keep in mind that the Moriche palm is recognized as an excellent water purifier, and an important part of the landscape of the Llanos Orientales Unfortunately, increasing changes in the use of land have led to population declines.

II CONFERENCIA BIENAL DE LA WILDLIFE DISEASE ASSOCIATION LATINOAMÉRICA

Entre el 24 y el 27 de septiembre de este año, Colombia será el país anfitrión del II encuentro Bienal que organizan Wildlife Disease Association (WDA) seccional Latinoamérica, la Asociación de Veterinarios de Vida Silvestre (VVS) y la Universidad de La Salle.

Este evento pretende dar a conocer la creciente investigación sobre las enfermedades y situaciones de salud en la fauna silvestre, tanto en Colombia como en América Latina.

SMART, MÁS QUE UNA HERRAMIENTA DE RECOPILACIÓN DE DATOS...

Organizaciones conservacionistas con una amplia experiencia tanto en el uso de herramientas de monitoreo como en la aplicación de la ley, junto con un equipo de ingenieros expertos en programas informáticos, han desarrollado la Herramienta de Monitoreo e Información Espacial, SMART. 

Las prácticas que ofrece SMART permiten a los administradores de las áreas protegidas y la vida silvestre optimizar el monitoreo, la evaluación y el manejo adaptativo de sus actividades de patrullaje. Este programa facilita la recopilación de información, el análisis y la generación de reportes que ayudan a dirigir los esfuerzos y recursos hacia donde más se necesiten.
